This idea, currently being worked on by MIT (see link below), could theoretically allow us to transfer raw electricity similar to how we broadcast radio waves. The difference, however, is that the energy is going in a straight line from the transmitter to receiver, rather than going everywhere within a certain radius of the transmitter. The article below sums it up pretty well so I'll just let you check it out for yourself.
I can see this being used in the power source for the more energy-consuming technologies on this site, mainly the lightsaber. A generator could be worn on one's back and then transmit the energy to the hilt with no wires, allowing it to be semi-portable. (I would like to see it eventually be all contained within the hilt, but this may be necessary for the first prototypes.)
